Once upon a time, there lived a clever monkey on a tree that bore fresh, delicious berries. One day it came when a crocodile swam up to the tree and told the monkey that he had traveled a very long distance and was very tired of his journey. The crocodile had gone out in search of food and was very hungry. Hearing this, the kind monkey gave him some berries for which the crocodile was very grateful. He asked the monkey if he could come to him again soon to get some fruit. The monkey happily agreed.
The crocodile came back the next day, and the day after that. Soon, it became a daily ritual and they became good friends. As all friends do, they discussed the events of their lives and confided in each other. The crocodile told the monkey about his wife who lived on the other side of the river. So, the generous monkey offered the crocodile some extra berries to take home for his wife.
The crocodile and the monkey grew closer as friends and they ate berries together. The monkey often gave the crocodile extra berries to take home for his wife. The two friends had become so close that the crocodile’s wife became jealous. She wanted to end their friendship. He thought to himself that if the monkey survived by eating the delicious berries, its meat would be sweet indeed. So, he asked the crocodile to invite his friend for dinner. The crocodile refused because he knew that his wife was up to some evil trick. However, he was determined to eat the monkey meat.
He pretended to be ill and told the crocodile that his doctor claimed that the only thing that would prevent him from dying was a monkey’s heart. On hearing this, the crocodile climbed the monkey’s tree and lied to him that his wife had prepared a delicious dinner for them. The monkey happily agreed and climbed on the crocodile’s back. Halfway through, the monkey saw that the crocodile had started drowning. The monkey got scared and asked his friend why he was doing this. The crocodile truthfully described the situation.
The clever monkey told him that it was an unfortunate situation as he had left his heart at home. If the crocodile would take him back, he would gladly give his heart to the crocodile’s wife to bring her back to health. The goofy crocodile fell for the monkey’s clever lie and climbed back up the tree so he could take the monkey’s heart. As soon as they arrived, the monkey quickly ran to safety and told the crocodile to tell his wife that he had married a fool!

3. Fox And Grapes
One hot summer day a fox was strolling in an orchard until she came upon a bunch of grapes, which were ripe on a vine, trained on a high branch.

In ancient Greece there lived a very rich king Midas. He had everything he could ever ask for and a beautiful daughter whom he loved with all his heart, even more than his wealth.
One day, Silenus, a satyr loyal to Dionysus, the god of wine and celebration, passed by Midas’ garden. Since Midas believed that satyrs brought him good luck, he went against his family’s wishes and let Silenus rest in his palace until he could rise again.
When Dionysus heard of Midas’ kindness to his friend, he decided to grant the wealthy king a wish. Midas wished that everything he touched would turn to gold. Even though Dionysus knew this was a recipe for disaster, he granted the wish. Midas was in absolute bliss – he went around the garden and palace touching the most random things to turn them into gold. When he picked an apple, it turned into a shining gold apple. All the courtiers were very enchanted.
Midas was never happier… In all his excitement, he embraced his daughter, forgetting that everything he touched would turn to gold! Therefore, his daughter took the form of a lifeless, golden idol. Realizing what he had done, Midas went to Dionysus and begged the god to save his daughter. Complying with her wish, Dionysus rescues his daughter and also takes away all of Midas’ powers, claiming that it was for the best. Midas had learned his lesson and lived the rest of his days content with what he had.
Moral: Don’t be greedy, be satisfied with what you have.

5. Ant and Pigeon
Once an ant was very thirsty in a hot summer. In search of water, she reached the bank of a river.
She climbed a small rock to drink water in the river and there she slipped and fell into the river while slipping. Due to the high current of water, it started flowing in the river.
There was a pigeon sitting on a tree nearby. He saw the ant fall into the river.
The dove quickly plucked a leaf and threw it near the ant in the river and the ant climbed onto it. After some time the ant hit the shore and got off the leaf and came to the dry ground. He looked towards the tree and thanked the dove.
In the evening the same day a hunter came to catch the pigeon with a net.
The dove was resting on the tree and had no idea about the hunter’s arrival. The ant saw the hunter and quickly went close and bit him hard on his leg.
The hunter screamed when the ant bitten and the dove woke up and flew away.
Moral: If you do good then good will happen to you. If you do good, good will happen to you too.

6. The Musical Donkey– Short Story in English with Moral
Udhata, a skinny donkey who has been starved by his owner, a local fisherman, goes in search of food with his friend Siyar. The pair wandered through the village in the middle of the night until they stumbled upon a cucumber field. That night, he really enjoyed his meal and decided to visit the cucumber farm every night. Udhata eventually began to look healthier and was able to lift more weights.
Once, after a delicious and nutritious meal of cucumbers, the donkey insisted on singing. Knowing that this was foolish, the jackal advised him against it but the stubborn donkey refused to listen to his friend. Even when the jackal told the donkey that his voice was not sweet at all, Udhata dismissed his remark – thinking that the jackal was jealous. He told the jackal that he was happy and there was nothing wrong in expressing his happiness. Once again, the jackal warns him of bringing trouble upon himself by his foolish behavior and troubling the guards. However, the silly donkey did not budge.
When the donkey started singing, the jackal stopped midway and asked the donkey to wait till the jackal jumped over the fence to his safety. The jackal decided to wait outside. The watchman woke up on hearing the loud braying of the donkey. When he saw Udhata, the guards brutally beat him black and blue. He held nothing back and vented all his anger on the donkey, who was genuinely regretting not having followed his friend’s advice. Once he was done, the donkey could barely move. Nevertheless, he somehow managed to drag his limp body out of the field where the jackal was waiting for him. His friend had a look of sympathy on his face as he said, “I told you so.”
Moral: Think before you act.
7. Dog And His Reflection
A dog was feeling very happy. He had found a big piece of meat and was carrying it somewhere far away so that he could eat it. He came to a stream and started crossing a narrow bridge that led from one bank to the other. He suddenly stopped and looked down.
He saw his own reflection shining on the surface of the water. The dog did not understand that it was looking at itself; He thought he was seeing another dog, which also had a piece of meat in its mouth.
“Oh! That piece of meat looks bigger than me!”
they thought.
“I’ll grab it and then run!”.

Once there was a slave who was treated cruelly by his master. One day he could not bear it and he ran into the forest to escape. There he found a lion who could not walk because of a thorn in his paw. Though he was scared, the slave mustered up courage and removed the thorn from the lion’s paw. When the lion was finally freed from the thorn, it ran into the forest and did not harm the slave.
After some time, the slave was caught by his master in the forest along with some animals. The master ordered the slave to be thrown into the lion’s den. When the slave saw the lion, he recognized that it was the same lion whom he had helped in the jungle. The slave managed to escape safely from the den and freed all the other animals.
Moral: The good you’ve done always has a way of coming back to you.
