Christmas Story

It was Christmas Eve at the North Pole and Father Christmas did what he does every year. He filled his sleigh with his sack of toys, added eight reindeer who would help him this year, and set off on his annual journey to deliver presents to children around the world.

The international date line means that Christmas starts in the Pacific and moves westward around the world for the next 24 hours, so Santa has all day to deliver presents to all the children around the world. Flying through the islands of the Pacific, Santa reached the islands of New Zealand, delivering gifts along the way.

Now in New Zealand, houses that have chimneys tend to have very narrow chimneys, so narrow that even Father Christmas has a hard time getting down. He was on one of his last stops in Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city, when he got stuck in a particularly narrow chimney.

It took several minutes of frantic struggle but eventually Santa managed to free himself, deliver the bike, doll and sleigh, remove the soot, drink the remaining brandy and return to his sleigh which, as usual, was on the roof. Was standing on , However, there was a small problem, his spectacles had fallen.

He was halfway through Japan when he realized that he was not seeing as well as he should have.

Oh well, he thought, I’ll just have to do without it.

Santa was in Japan when his lack of glasses became a problem. It was night, as it always is when giving gifts, even those near the South Pole, when Randolph and Tim, the two lead reindeer, attacked one of Japan’s many temples. Santa’s inability to drive properly had become a problem. The sleigh fell over, the reindeer were separated from it and were looking for some nice fresh Japanese lichens to eat.

Father Christmas got himself up, turned the sleigh in the right direction, picked up his sack and went to collect the reindeer.

“One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight,” he counted as he attached each reindeer to its correct position at the front of the sled, but Santa had made a mistake.

They added Guy instead of Randolph.

“Okay let’s go, we have presents to give and it’s getting late,” shouted Santa from his sleigh, he shook the rudder and the seven Ruminants of the Rumper galloped ahead, a very Confused about the cow.

The sleigh picked up speed and started flying through the air, but there was a problem. Cows cannot fly, so as the seven reindeer rose from the ground, the Japanese cow Daji-san stumbled and fell.

It was carnage, the sleigh overturned again, there were hoofs and presents everywhere.

“You ate too much Randolph, did you?” Santa said. “I have a great solution.”

Father Christmas rummaged through his multi-dimensional sack until he found what he was looking for, a canister of helium, saved for such emergencies. He turns on the gas and tries to fill Daisy with helium.

You should know two things. One, even when filled with helium, the cow does not float and the other cow is very good at producing gas. So Daisy just stood on the ground and did the occasional helium belch.

“Correct Randolph.” Santa said, as Daisy gives off the methane/helium combination, let’s get you hooked up again.

“Wait a minute, you’re not Randolph, who are you? Impostor! Well I never.”

Then there was a rumble as Daisy released some more helium.

“Where’s Randolph? Randolph, where are you? There you naughty reindeer, what are you doing there?”

“Moo,” said a very confused cow.

Father Christmas has to separate Daisy from the sleigh and reconnect Randolph.

Soon he has recovered all eight animals attached to the sled and manages to deliver the much anticipated gift to the rest of the world once again through the night.
