A Carrot An Egg and The Coffee-Beans
A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were very difficult for her. She didn’t know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting. It seemed that as soon as one problem was solved, a new one cropped up. His mother took him to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to a boil. In the first he placed carrots, in the second he placed eggs and in the last he placed coffee beans. He let them sit and boil without saying anything. In about twenty minutes he switched off the burners. He took out the carrots and put them in a bowl. He took out the eggs and put them in a bowl. Then he took out the coffee ladle and put it in a cup.
Turning to his daughter, he asked, “Tell me, what do you see?”
“Carrots, eggs and coffee,” replied the young woman.
Mother brought him to her and asked him to touch and see the carrots. He did and saw that they were soft.
Then he asked her to take an egg and crack it. After removing the shell, he saw a hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her to drink coffee. The daughter smiled after tasting its rich aroma.
Then the daughter asked, “What does this mean, mother?”
Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity – boiling water – but each reacted differently. Carrot went in strong, tough and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to boiling water, it became soft and brittle.
The egg was fragile. Its thin outer shell protected its liquid interior. But, after sitting in the boiling water, its insides became hard! However, the ground coffee beans were unique. When they were in boiling water, they changed the water.
“Which one are you?” the mother asked her daughter.
